Searching for Tar, Tremor 3, Mapa Theatro, 24-hour performance, Bogota, Columbia, March 2006
Anticipation: Prior (before action was done) & previous (remnants after action was done) / smell, touch, taste, hearing, vision / Process / presentation / body / presence / art-making process / embodiment of rituals / non verbal social relations / actions as symbols / control
The symbol is any object, act, event, quality or relation, which serves as a vehicle for conception, the conception is the symbols meaning.
Symbolism adds a new value to an object or an act without thereby violating its immediate or ‘historical’ validity. Once it is brought to bear, it turns the object or action into an ‘open’ event: symbolic thought opens the door to immediate reality for us, but without weakening or invalidating it; seen in this light the universe is no longer sealed off, nothing is isolated inside its own existence: everything is linked by a system of correspondences and assimilations.
•Five objects were activated and used each hour. The objects were introduced to the audience at the beginning of the previous hour.
•Each hourly piece was done on a 24” x 24” color cloth square, designated for that hour.
•There was ‘OFFERINGS’ for viewers to take, for 7 of the 24 hours.
•There was 24 different sound pieces created, one for each hour, by my sound collaborator: Maxwell Delaney (one hour by Dirk Adams)
•I strived to change both my own experience (emotionally, mentally, & physically), as well as the viewer’s / audience’s each hour for 24 hours.
