Forward / Backward Time & Objects, Mobius Presents: ELAPSE, 381 Congress St., 24-hour durational performance, Boston, Ma, September 2006
Anticipation / time / choice / trust / assumption / commitment
Anticipation changes how we deal with and experience the passing of time. Anticipation occurs on a daily, even hourly basis. There are many objects that can create anticipation: matches, an instrument, a knife, a pill, an unopened letter are just a few. There is clearly the element of the unknown, there is also the element of assumption and expectations – assuming or expecting an action, an occurrence, an outcome, a response, an experience, or an event.
The objects for hour 1 were the same as the objects of hour 24. Hour 2 the same as hour 23, hour 3 the same as hour 22 and so on. Twelve friends and colleagues were given $12 each to purchase objects for two of the hours (as stated above). They had to buy two sets of the same objects. How they choose to spend their $12 was up to each of the participants. I did NOT know what the objects for the first 12 hours.
