Stone Collection, Living Room Project, Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Boston, Ma, February 2016

Inspired by the 2000 exhibit The Living Room by artist-in-residence Lee Mingwei, the room is designed to foster visitor learning and interaction in creative ways. In addition to collection resources and trained volunteers, twice a week visitors encounter a “living sculpture” in the form of a guest host who shares personal objects.

Personal collection / invitation / tradition / repetition / share / discuss / honor / remember

I was invited by Ian Deleón and Tiffany York to be a host. For the last 5 years or so local Boston artists, artist educators, museum educators & workers have been invited to bring a personal collection of their own to share with museum visitors. The sharing takes place in the museum’s living room space that was created during the renovation in 2012 and was directly inspired by Mingwei’s Living Room Project he did during his residency at the museum in 2000.

I brought our collection of stones and rocks. There were many. Living room visitors were invited to curate the stones and take two pictures with a small Fuji / Polaroid camera of their exhibit. They kept one of the images and I kept the other.
